State by State Election Coverage
Five states held elections for insurance commissioner, and another six selected governors who will appoint insurance commissioners. In the commissioner races, the Democrats took the lead. After six terms and 24 years in office, North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Jim Long has opted to step down, and Democrat Wayne Goodwin looks to succeed him. In Delaware, Democrat Karen Stewart beat Republican John Brady to fill the seat vacated by Insurance Commissioner Matthew Denn. In Washington, Democratic Insurance Commissioner Mike Kreidler defeated challenger John Adams.
