Altmire attended college at Florida State University and graduate school at the George Washington University. He worked in the Capitol Hill office of former Rep. Douglas Peterson, D-Fla. After an executive stint with the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, he was elected to the U.S. House in 2006.
