Merkley is currently the speaker of the Oregon House of Representatives. A graduate of Stanford University and Princeton University, Merkley once worked in the office of the Secretary of Defense and in the Congressional Budget Office in Washington, D.C. He is a former president of the World Affairs Council of Oregon.
