Hodes earned his bachelor's degree from Dartmouth College, and his law degree from Boston College Law School. The assistant Attorney General of New Hampshire from 1979 to 1982, Hodes ran an unsuccessful campaign for a U.S. House seat in 2004 before being elected to the seat in 2006.
