A former Air Force pilot, and subsequently a crop-duster and charter flight operator, ran an oilfield services firm for 14 years. Elected to the New Mexico state House of Representatives in 1996 and served until 2000, becoming chairman of the state Republican Caucus. Ran unsuccessfully for U.S. Senate in 2000, and was elected to the U.S. House 2002. Running for the seat vacated by Sen. Pete Domenici, R-N.M.
