Current Office: U.S. House
Porter attended Briar Cliff University in Sioux City, Iowa. He was elected to the Boulder City, Nevada City Council in 1983, the same year he started work as an agent for Farmers Insurance. The mayor of Boulder City from 1987 to 1991, Porter later served in the Nevada State Senate from 1994 to 2002. He was elected to the U.S. House in 2002, and is a member of the Ways and Means Committee and the Budget Committee.
