Mark Schauer earned a bachelor's degree from Albion College, and two master's degrees from Western Michigan University and Michigan State University, respectively. A member of the Calhoun County, Mich. Planning Department from 1984 to 1987, he was elected to the Michigan House of Representatives in 1997. Schauer was elected to the Michigan State Senate in 2002, attaining the status of Senate Minority Leader after the 2006 mid-term elections.
