Keller was first elected in 2000 after several years as an attorney. Keller has been sponsor in several recent sessions of Congress of the industry-supported Personal Responsibility in Food Consumption Act, which would ban lawsuits that look to hold restaurants and food-makers responsible for a consumer's obesity.
