Lunsford co-founded Vencor in 1985, a company which became known as Kindred Healthcare in 2001. Lunsford has served as the Kentucky Democratic Party's treasurer, deputy development secretary and head of commerce. Ran unsuccesfully for Kentucky governor in 2003 and 2007.
