Current Office: U.S. Senator
After time spent as a congressional staffer, was appointed deputy assistant attorney general by President Ford. In 1978, became the Jefferson County, Ky. judge/executive, where he served until his election to the U.S. Senate in 1984. He chaired the National Republican Senatorial Committee in the 1998 and 2000 elections and became majority whip in the 108th Congress. In November 2006, he was selected the Senate minority leader for the 110th Congress.
