Current Office: Most recently served as chief executive officer of the National Center for Food and Agricultural Policy.
Served three terms in Congress representing Indiana's 4th District from 1989 to 1995, and then five years as undersecretary of the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Prior to her election, was an assistant professor of business administration at Valparaiso University.
Issues: In August, unveiled a plan to establish a health insurance purchasing pool for small businesses, establishing a governmental authority to develop and manage the pool. Small businesses would be offered financial incentives to purchase health insurance for their employees through the pool.
